Chris Brown And Pitbull Wonder“Where Do We Go From Here”| Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

chris-brown-twitter3
It’s hard to think of anyone who is more ready to leave 2010 behind than Chris Brown— which may be why he can’t stop talking about the future (said to include collaborations withJustin Bieber,Bruno Mars). Heck, Bieber’s evenencouraging him. Brown hasn’t made it easy on himself— just this week he’s beenforced to apologizefor more offensive tweets. But he’s clearly wondering what’s next: check out newly surfaced“Where Do We Go From Here”, in which Brown teams up with Pitbull to contemplate the next chapter. We can’t think of a more appropriate song to end 2010— listen below.

Chris Brown f/ Pitbull - Where Do We Go From Here

Produced by Jim Jonsin, the track seems intended for either Pitbull’s next project or Brown’s upcomingF.A.M.E.

Brown soars on the chorus, asking““Where do we go from here / World, tell me please / Where do we go from here / I want the world to tell me please / Where do we go from here / Somebody please let me know / Where do we go from here / I want the whole world to show / Where do we go… and I don’t wanna do it alone / I want the world to dance.”

But beyond that the song is really a showcase for Pitbull’s verses, which he uses to rap about surpassing limits:“I’m here to show the world what it is to make something from nothing,” he says.

Whether Brown himself can overcome all the obstacles he’s set up for himself, however, is another question.

Justin Timberlake’s“Take You Down”Is Still Up For Debate | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

justin timberlake close up
Justin Timberlake says he hopes he’s“not done”recording music— and indeed, he’s evidentlyworking on a track with Drake(or,possibly Cody Simpson). But for the moment, we have to make do with what we have— which means checking out this newly surfaced track,“Take You Down”. Rumored to be an unfinished demo produced by the Neptunes, the track is a stomper. We’d like to think it means a new JT album might surface by the end of 2011— is our excitement justified? Listen.

Justin Timberlake - Take You Down

“Let me get that drink now for you / I’ll keep it filled tonight / A little secret for you / I’m a gentleman before midnight” Timberlake(?) sings on the verse, sounding like he’s ready to bring sexy back over a pounding drum line. There are a couple of points where the vocals don’t sound quite like the JT we know, so we’ll withhold final judgement until we hear some kind of confirmation that it’s legit.

It’s not like Timberlake has abstained from the studio altogether— in recent months he’s appeared on new tracks byDiddyandGame, so it’s not impossible that he’s been laying down other new tracks.

Is this the Timberlake jam you’ve been waiting for?

DJ Earworm Sums Up 2010 With (What Else?) A Party Mashup | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

United State of Pop 2010 (Don't Stop the Pop)

It’s never easy to sum up an entire year of pop music.Trustus,we’vetried. But when you’ve spun through all the lists, recaps and reflections, recognize that the way to really review the year in music is to listen to 2011— all at once. And there’s no better way to do that than withDJ Earworm’s franchise,“The United State Of Pop”. Listen toEarwormmash up Billboard’s top 25 songs of the year, and read his thoughts on what it all meant. (Fair warning: there’s a lot of Ke$ha). You know you’ve been waiting for this— how does this year’s edition measure up?

The DJ himself sums up the major shift in this year’s pop music themes as articulately as any other pop pundit we’ve seen (and here’slast year’s mixfor reference):

In 2010, pop has gone into serious all-out party mode. In 2009 the music was encouraging us to pick ourselves back up after being knocked down again, and to rock out to some great dance music while your at it. This year’s music tells us to keep going now that we’re up and having fun. In fact, the fun seems to be in such overdrive that it borders on recklessness. Usher urges us to ‘dance like it’s the last night of your life”, and Katy Perry wants us to “run away and don’t ever look back”. Even thesongs that aren’t about parties have parties in their videos, like this year’s entries from Mike Posner and Lady Antebellum… It’s a great thing about music that you can leave your worries and lose yourself in the moment. In our current world of dance pop culture fantasy, this takes place at a club, where you can drink, meet the most amazing person you’ve ever met, and where as Ke$ha says, “the party don’t stop”.

It’s a work of art— and of course, it’s filled with clever transitions (Ke$ha singing“ain’t got no money in my pocket” into Bruno Mars singing“I want to be a billionaire”, Katy Perry singing“no regrets” into Bruno Mars singing“there’s not a thing that I would change”, etc.).

What’s the best moment for you?

Katy Perry Phones Home On The“E.T.”Remix | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

Katy-Perry-E.T.-FanMade-320x320Katy Perry is due to drop another single from herGrammy-nominatedhit albumTeenage Dreamsometime soon (we hope, anyway), and although we expect the cheeky“Peacock”to be next on her schedule, we first get a remix of“E.T.”, a middling sorta-techno ode to falling in love with a space creature. (Wonder where shecame up with that?) British rapper Tinie Tempah makes it a remix by dropping a mostly unintelligible verse near the end. Blast off below!

Katy Perry feat. Tinie Tempah - E.T. (Remix)

Hopefully this one’s just for the clubs (we’re pretty sure that cover art is fan made, too), leaving Perry to get to work on a new music video so we can see her peacock-cock-cock, her peacock-cock.

What do you think of this remix to“E.T.”? And what song do you want thesultry chameleon-like pop starto next drop as a single?

But if you’re looking for a bit more of a taste of the LP than lead single“Well, Well, Well”, head below to hear the track“Don’t Forsake Me”, which finds the Welsh chanteuse sounding—what else—decidedly lovely and retro.

Like most ofEndlessly,“Don’t Forsake Me” was written by Albert Hammond.“All the judging and all the disarray, you keep on trying me but you’re only pushing me away,” Duffy sings on the love-weary track.

Duffy - Don't Forsake Me

Are you feeling the same spark fromEndlesslythat Duffy ignited withRockferry—the album that went on to garner the 26-year-old singer a Grammy and three Brit Awards (including Best British Album)?

Michael Jackson Softens Up On“The Way You Love Me”, Goes Hard With 50 Cent On“Monster”| Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

50 Cent Michael JacksonMichael Jackson’sMichaelsurfaced on the web today, and although thefirst few trackswe were treated tolacked the spark (not to mentionthe vocals) of the King of Pop we knew and loved, the remainder of the compilation album isn’t such a disappointment— MJ’s collaboration with 50 Cent, the thumping track“Monster”, is an aggressive attack on allowing yourself to live a monstrous Hollywood life, while“(I Like) The Way You Love Me” is a sweet tune that should have been released long ago. Listen to both below.

Michael Jackson feat. 50 Cent - Monster

“Everywhere you turn a monster / When you look up into the air there’s a monster / Paparazzi got you scared like a monster,” sings Michael on yet another song called“Monster” to drop in the last year. (Others include Kanye’s and Lady Gaga’s tracks, though we wouldn’t be surprised if there were more out there.)

The tune was produced by Teddy Riley, Angelikson and Michael Jackson, and features Fiddy, rapping at full Eminem speed for her fairly middling verse.

We really like hearing MJ growl when he’s singing about a subject that angers him, but even catchier than“Monster” is the snappy love song“(I Like) The Way You Love Me”, which kicks off with Jackson demonstrating the melody and beat of the tune over the phone:

Michael Jackson - (I Like) The Way You Love Me

All in all,Michaelisn’t completely the money-grubbing cash-in we were expecting, since there are a few noteworthy tracks to be found on it. Now just replace“Breaking News” with“Blue Gangsta” on the LP and we’ll be happy.

What do you think of the songs onMichael? Are they unfullfilling leftovers, or is it just nice to hear new songs from the King of Pop?

Chris Brown Is Ready For This Jelly In“Seen Her Naked”| Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

chris-brown-lights

Credit Chris Brown for this much— he knows how to keep us guessing. True, the first leakfrom his newIn My Zone 2mixtape leaned on the sort of unimaginative sex imagery he indulges in all too regularly. But— bear with us now — on new track“Seen Her Naked”, he surprises us by finding a way to make his sexcapadesplayful. Yes, this one relies on repeating the lyric“I done seen her jelly”, but at least you can dance to it. You’ll see below.

Chris Brown - Seen Her Naked

Brown twists away with a track built on retro funk keyboards and handclaps, and— if you set aside some of the more juvenile lines — it’s kind of fun to hear him reach for“Hey Ya!”-style pop grandeur.

Sam Adams Has A Hit On Tap With‘Party Records’| Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

sam-adams
Sam Adams shocked everyone earlier this year when, out of nowhere, his mostly self-produced EP landed at the top of iTunes’ hip-hop digital albums chart. The rapper’sBoston’s Boyoutsold albums by Lil Wayne and DJ Khaledfor the week— powered by strong word-of-mouth and his own Annie Lennox-sampling jam,“Driving Me Crazy”. In fact, his success was so sudden that critics tried to suggest he manufactured it. But Sam (aka Wiz) has kept the party rolling, and the rapper sometimes described asKe$ha’s male counterpart recently dropped a new mixtape,Party Records.

We like his independent spirit (and hislove for his mom) and we’re honored to presenthis show at House Of Blues on the Sunset Stripnext weekend. Check below for details and grab a free MP3 of Sam’s“Some Chordz”. Can we get some extra bass, please?

Sam Adams - Some Chordz

The track (built on deadmau5’s stomper“Some Chords”) is one example of Adam’s expertise at rapping over dance tracks—Party Recordsalso includes beats borrowed from Rusko, Bangladesh and Bassnectar, among others. But we think this one in particular belongs in your iPod.

Check out Adams on tour— and if you’re in LA, come to the show next week!

Michael Jackson’s“Much Too Soon”Asks What Might’ve Been | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

Michael-Jackson-Michael-Album-Cover
“Much Too Soon” is the third new(-ish) track from Michael Jackson, and the first to be identified as a product of his remarkably creativeThrillerperiod. (Not that we expect that to changethe song lineup forGlee). Jackson“always liked” the bittersweet“Much Too Soon”, according to a post onhis official website,“and would pull it back out of the vaults for each subsequent album project but never found the right home for it”. Was Jackson right not to release this one during his lifetime? Listen below.

Michael Jackson - Much Too Soon

Co-written with longtime collaborator John McClain,“Much Too Soon” finds Jackson’s falsetto at its most tender, with a harmonica solo and strings adding a tone of regret. Jackson sings of the hurt of rejection (”And would you like to go with me/ And she answered no to me/ Well guess I learned my lesson much too soon”), but at bottom this one is about the sorrow over what might’ve been. Which is why it’s a perfect song to end the upcoming Jackson collection,Michael.

We can understand why this one didn’t make the cut forThriller— but it is fascinating to know that, at the time he was recording the majestic dance-pop of his best-known album, he still had an interest in wistful ballads.

Jackson certainly recorded more provocative tear-jerkers than this. But it is high time for the Jackson camp to release forgotten songs like“Much Too Soon”. We just wish it had happened under different circumstances.

Listen To Two New Michael Jackson Tracks,“Blue Gangsta”And“All I Need”| Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

Classic photo of living legend Michael JacksonTwo previously unreleased tracks by Michael Jackson popped up onOh No They Didn’ttoday, a slow, 70s-sounding ballad“All I Need”, and an uptempo, sexy, rockin’ tune called“Blue Gangsta”. Unlike the previous songs thatSony and Jackson’s estate desperately want you to believefeature the King of Pop’s voice, these two numbers (not included on the forthcoming compilation albumMichael) sound like pure MJ from the very first note he sings. Listen to both songs below.

Michael Jackson - Blue Gangsta

“What you’ve done to me, baby, I can no longer smile / And I waited to long just to carry on / I’m the blue gangsta,” sings Jackson, ripping through the verse with his beloved, powerful growl on this slinky R&B track.

Michael Jackson - All I Need

“Come together all the people, we can do it now / Use your chance to make it right, go take a chance,” Michael sings on the uplifting ballad, backed by the whispering vocals of a childrens choir on the chorus.

Of course, we live in an age today where voices can be manipulated, so until these songs are confirmed from Jackson’s estate, take it all with a grain of salt. That said,we’rebuying that these are from the King of Pop, though we’re unclear from what studio sessions either song was recorded during.

What do you think of these two tracks? Do you like them more than“Breaking News“,“Hold My Hand” and the other tunes we’ve heard so far that will be released onMichael?
