Mercedes’Singing Vs. Duckie’s Dancing: Who Rocked“Try A Little Tenderness”? | Music News, Reviews, and Gossip on Idolator.com

Mercedes Amber Riley Jon Cryer Pretty In Pink Duckie Try A Little TendernessNext week’s“Funeral” episode ofGleeboasts Amber Riley’s diva-worthy rendition of Otis Redding’s version of“Try A Little Tenderness.” We could actually sit here all afternoon listening to it on repeat— and in fact, we will! But as much as we love Mercedes, we couldn’t help thinking of Jon Cryer’s classicPretty In Pinkcharacter Duckie, who both stunned and freaked out Molly Ringwald and Annie Potts while busting crazy white-boy moves to Otis’ classic in the film. Amber clearly has the pipes, but Duckie had the dance. So who totally rocked the song?

First, we’ll admit that without seeing Mercedes’ scene in the upcomingGleeepisode, we might be jumping the gun. Who knows— maybe she brings it with her own sassy choreography?

Likewise, Jon Cryer doesn’t actually sing in 1986 Brat Pack flickPretty In Pink. Instead, he just kind of flops his body against the wall at Trax record shop, jerks his head from side-to-side and over-emotes with that big ol’ mouth of his.

Drag queens, take note— this is classic in lip sync character study!

Mercedes’ voice always gives us the chills. But Duckie’s energetic scene never stops bringing the thrills.

Which“performance” of“Try A Little Tenderness” do you think is best? Let us know below!
